Exclusive interview

KC

Hip-Hop artist, KC!

Where did you grow up? I grew up between Akron, Ohio and D.C.

What inspired you to get into music? I enjoyed the way it felt to be able to tell your story. To be able to write your life and have others understand where your coming from. More proof that you aren't alone.

Do you write and produce music? Yes, I do both. I produced a few track for this new EP. I also produced some for all my earlier releases. All thirteen of them.

What is a songwriting session like for you? Just depends on what I'm writing about. What mood I'm in. What happened to me that day, or what it is I'm experiencing. Even better if I find a beat that I'm feeling. Then it's contact the producer, make the deal, record it, mix it, master it. Send it out for copyright, and then release it.

Have you toured a lot in your career? Not as much as I would like. I have some health issues that has slowed my touring days down. But when I get a chance, I will hop on a local show or two.

What is your local music scene like right now in Akron? We have a lot of great artists. Some are doing more than others. Some are in the face of the crowd, others are making moves on the net. We have more than enough artists with dope music to rival any major artist.

Do you collaborate with other artists? I have plenty of times. All you got to do is listen to any of my previous albums. I didn't collaborate with anyone on this one because a question was asked of me, "Could I handle an album on my own". Well as of this writing, 600k+ streams, countless CD's sold, yes, I think I can hold my own.

What are some of the challenges of being an artist, a family man and dealing with a career? Challenges? Well you always have those who doubt you. Those who think that just because you are not on BET, or MTV, that you haven't made it. Maybe those around you don't even support you, but got the most to say. Some will even say that I'm too old. Shid, I don't let the music stop me from providing for my family. Both sons like daddy's music. One is 13, and the other is 30. My sister supports me, and a handful of others. Even more, the music has helped pay some bills and helped me get some of the things me and my family wanted.

Tell us about your latest project. Champion 2, is in my opinion, a masterpiece. All my released music has a lot to do with the one before it. As I said earlier, it depends on my mood. On Champion 1, I laid the ground work for what Champion 2 is. I spoke what was on my mind. From "Damn I'm Great" to "The Blue Race" to "Blind", I didn't mince any words. I said how I felt. So far, it seems like a lot of people agree.

What can we expect from you in the future? Well, I'm working on Vendetta 2, this one might piss a few people off. A lot has happened since I dropped Champion 2 and I am pissed. So, there is no telling what's about to happen. Best thing to do is buckle up!
