We had a chance to talk to musician David Brinkman.
His new CD "From My Pen" is a wonderful collection of music and we wanted to find out more about the man behind the music.
What is the local music scene currently like where you live in the UK?
We have local bands performing in bars and clubs. There is a folk club which meets every week. A Jazz club meets every so often. An Arts venue puts on regular musicals performed by amateur groups and from the University. The local Theatre puts on musicals from amateur and professional companies.
At what age did you realize you wanted to get into music?
I had a good soprano voice and I enjoyed singing in the church. Between the ages of 12-15, I wrote fifteen terrible songs. When I was seventeen, I wrote my first decent song –“Queen Bee”. Now my musician friends say that I sing like Neil Young!
How were you able to get into the children's songs market?
Soon after writing my first decent song, I wrote a lullaby for my niece Karen. I continued to write more songs including songs for children. I have written and co-written twelve new songs for children, and these are available on my web site  I also tried selling my products to local schools but it is a hard market to sell to. Eight of these were recorded by four talented youngsters and I named them “King Street Kids”, referring to the street where I lived. Sheet music is available.
Where do you mainly record?
I have recorded on my own tracks at a local studio out at Crathes, Banchory, Aberdeenshire, run by Pallas lead guitarist, Niall Mathewson. He has a 48 track studio in a converted old Mill  hence “The Mill Recording Studio” a  very pleasant environment and Niall is an excellent recording engineer with years of experience. I used local professional musicians to record my debut album  “From My Pen”
Are there many great venues in Scotland to do gigs at?
Yes, mainly in the cities like Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, and Glasgow!
What are the fans like in Scotland?
Great, and just like fans everywhere.
How long did it take to record your new CD "From My Pen"?
I did it over a four year period when I had the money.
Out of the 14 tracks, which song has the most meaning to you and for what reason?
I like all my songs equally, but the first decent one “Queen Bee”, a blues number, was a song that came to me very quickly, and it surprised my dad at the time.
Are there any other artists under the Silver Mile record label?
There are no other artists at present.
What can we expect from you in the future?
I have co-written another fourteen new love songs with my good friend Keith Murray, and would like to have them arranged and recorded at the Mill Recording Studio, again using local professional musicians.
